Sea4Us is a world-class biotechnology company focused on transforming marine-derived compounds with therapeutic potential for unmet medical needs into pharmaceutical assets. Sea4Us has developed a platform focused on the discovery and development of new pharmaceutical products, based on its expertise in ion channels and marine biology.

In past projects, Sea4Us identified new chemical structures of marine origin and a novel mechanism of action. Based on this new mode of action, Sea4Us developed active pharmaceutical ingredients aimed at mitigating chronic pain. From the development and optimization activities of the lead compound for clinical trials, more than 130 analogous compounds were generated. Of these, ten stand out for their pharmaceutical potential, which should be further explored. Specifically, these compounds have shown unprecedented efficacy in modulating aberrantly hyperactive neurons, which are implicated in conditions such as overactive bladder, hyper-inflamed gallbladder, epilepsy, chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN), among others. Building on this context, the current project, “Mar4Health: Patented Marine Molecules for New Medical Applications in Unmet Clinical Needs,” aims to increase the value of Sea4Us’s intellectual property by expanding its applications, exploring the potential of new patents, and creating business models for commercializing the technologies. Preliminary results validate the therapeutic potential of these new products, which in this project will be further developed to reach Proof of Concept (PoC) for medical conditions with no adequate treatment, with the goal of achieving a TRL 4 within the project’s timeframe and leading to the submission of new patents.
