🪸 From the Sea to Medicine – First Non Opiod Analgesic for Chronic Pain

A chance encounter between a marine sponge and Pedro Lima, in Sagres, that’s how it all started.

“The sea has these substances that (…) could give us something very useful for medicine and for diseases that require new therapies”.

Chronic pain is one of those diseases, affecting one in five of us. For moderate to severe pain levels, treatment options are limited, and frequently with low efficacy or safety. From the differentiating portuguese marine chemistry, we have designed and developed a new treatment to be a better alternative to those currently available, such as opioids, fentanyl or morphine.
